Dear Sweet Wellington: Do you need a photo Essay

Below are some of my favorite pictures captured in Wellington. Why? In all honesty, I don't have a clue. I don't think that it really has anything to do with if they are technically any good or not. For me I have loved living in Wellington, and well these photos just capture that for me. Maybe as I look back on them I will not be so take by the emotion of them, but who cares. If you love photos take them. Don't worry about how to put in them all in a Photo Essay (Grated sometimes in your work you will need to). But if you see something that you love take it enjoy it and don't care what others think of it.

Wellington Botanic Gardens (Macro Photography)

One of the best tips I have ever been given about photography is "don't be an equipment junky. Know what you have and use it." You can have all the best equipment in the world but if you don't know how to use it your not going to get the shoot you want. So there is not point buy the latest and greatest camera and then setting it to auto. So with macro photography your going to need to know your Minimum Focusing Distance, partially if your going to do what I have done in some of the images below. I didn't have the right lens for the job had to make do with what I had. I know I had a high number of pixels to place with so I made sure I was shooting at lest my Minimum Focusing Distance and this meant my images were not framed correctly so I cropped in post.

However don't misunderstand me, I suggest always having the right tool for the job but sometime things come up that you didn't for see. So if you know your equipment you maybe able to use them in different ways.

Lux (What is Art)

Lux is a Wellington Night Light Festival "turns Wellington’s waterfront and laneways into a captivating celebration of light, art, technology and design."

Some of the image take are of the art projects, however some of these images are also beautiful lights around the projects, that help to light the streets on a day to day bases. Can you tell the difference?  So I guess this begs the question what is art?
